Why you'll love this recipe
- It's absolutely delicious! Avocado toast is a favorite, versatile dish you can easily customize to your taste or mood. While a hot honey drizzle on a creamy avocado and bread might be a little surprising, it's actually such a great addition. Perfectly sweet and savory with some spice, and more and more delicious bite after bite.
- Putting together an avocado toast is so simple and easy to make. Perfect for a quick filling breakfast on a busy morning. And great for a beautiful brunch with family and friends with this cottage cheese toast, frittata, and protein pancakes. Even kids will love it, maybe use regular honey instead of spicy for them.
- Avocados are nutrient-filled, often considered a superfood and an excellent source of healthy fat.
Key Ingredients and variations
- Toast: I used my favorite sourdough, but you can use any kind of bread you like.
- Avocado: use a ripe medium to large avocado for two toasts, or two small avocados. Make sure it's ripe, meaning if you squeeze it gently, it'll have a little give. If it's too mushy it's probably brown inside and if it's too hard or bright green, it's not ripe yet.
- Hot honey: I love the spice hot honey brings, but if you don't want heat, use regular honey of your choice. You can also add red pepper flakes, for extra heat.
- Lemon juice: adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice helps the avocado stay green longer, and the acidity balances the sweetness of this recipe perfectly.
- Salt, pepper and garlic powder: use to taste. You can also use other spices like onion powder, lemon pepper, everything but the bagel, sesame seeds or a multipurpose spice mix.

Frequently asked questions
It's a lot easier to spread on the bread without making a mess, and stays on while eating the toast. Mash the avocado to your taste, if you want it very smooth or a little chunky.
