    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Chocolate and oranges is such a delicious combo! Sweet, juicy, tangy and so satisfying. A nutritious healthier sweet treat as oranges are packed with vitamins. And it's kid-friendly like my nourishing hot chocolate.
    • It's so easy to make. The most demanding part is peeling the oranges but this dessert is quick to put together, and only requires a handful of ingredients. You can easily customize this recipe too, add crushed nuts, sprinkles and use any kind of chocolate you prefer.
    • Perfect to serve as a snack at a gathering or a holiday party, they're elegant and appealing and will definitely be enjoyed by everyone.

    Key Ingredients

    • Oranges: some oranges are easier to peel than others like Sumo oranges. You can use tangerines or mandarins too if you prefer. Seedless is best.
    • Chocolate: I used a mixture of dark chocolate, you can use semi-sweet if you'd like.
    • Butter: can be replaced by coconut oil or avocado oil. Just a tad to give the chocolate a shiny finish.
    • Vanilla paste: I prefer paste to extract for this recipe because liquid can affect the chocolate texture, but a tad will work fine. Skip if you'd like.
    • Flaky salt: optional. Personally I prefer the chocolate dipped oranges without the salt but my husband prefers them with the salt. Up to you. Just use a tad.

Peel the oranges and lay them on paper towels to absorb moisture.

In small bowl, add the chocolate, vanilla paste and butter. Microwave for 20 seconds. Stir. Microwave again for 15 to 20 seconds. Stir. Microwave for another 10 seconds if needed and stir. Don't burn the chocolate.

Dip half of each orange segment in the chocolate and place on the parchment paper to rest until set about 15-20 minutes (at room temperature or in the fridge). Optional: add a little pinch of flaky salt right after dipping in the chocolate. Serve and enjoy!

    Tips

    • Make sure the orange segments are dry before dipping them in the chocolate. Pat them with paper towels. This will ensure the melted chocolate sticks to the fruit.
    • Use good quality chocolate for the best taste. Dark chocolate goes very well with citrus.
    • Melt the chocolate slowly in 20 seconds intervals in the microwave. 5 seconds too long can burn the chocolate very quickly.
    • Chilling the oranges in the fridge once chocolate coated is faster than room temperature but not mandatory.
    • I highly recommend using parchment paper or wax paper after dipping the oranges for easy clean-up.
    • Use toppings! Crushed nuts, sprinkles would be great in place of flaky salt.
    • While these oranges are best eaten the day they're prepared, you can store leftovers in an airtight container refrigerated for up to 3 days. I don't recommend freezing this recipe.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Besides the microwave method, how can I melt the chocolate?

You can use the double boiler method where you put the chocolate in a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. Make sure to stir often.
